I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! We had a
super fun gathering (and fabulous food!!) in December and enjoyed
viewing past and present art and sharing how we have matured as artists!<br />
<div>
<div>
It’s
time to begin the second half of our year in Art Guild and we have an
awesome agenda for you for the next five months!!!! This will be the
perfect opportunity to bring people you know who want to learn more
about a specific medium! Four of our members have graciously agreed to
teach us about a medium that they are familiar using. They will each be
in charge of a mini workshop and then will hold a weekend workshop in
that media!! What a gift to be given by our talented members!!</div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So… on <u><b><span class="aBn" data-term="goog_1759528840" tabindex="0"><span class="aQJ">January 11th</span></span></b></u> at the Presbyterian Church fellowship hall from <span class="aBn" data-term="goog_1759528841" tabindex="0"><span class="aQJ">5:30-6:30</span></span>
we will begin our exploration of watercolor, pastel, oil, and acrylics
by learning more about what is needed to set oneself up to work in each
media with a mini-workshop entitled: “Where Do I Begin…and With What?!”
**<i>Each of the members who is presenting a workshop later will bring
information for us about paper, canvas, paint, pastels, brushes,
easels, how to protect oneself from toxins, cost of materials,
preserving, framing, etc., etc., etc.</i>** Questions are encouraged!
Of course, we will also be adding our own combined knowledge to the
mini-workshop because that’s how we learn and become well-informed
about what it takes to begin to work in that art form! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Then…on <u><span class="aBn" data-term="goog_1759528842" tabindex="0"><span class="aQJ">February 8th</span></span></u>, <i><b>Tish Treinen</b></i> will begin with techniques in <b>watercolor</b>. She will follow up the mini-workshop with a tentative <span class="aBn" data-term="goog_1759528843" tabindex="0"><span class="aQJ">Saturday</span></span> workshop on <span class="aBn" data-term="goog_1759528844" tabindex="0"><span class="aQJ">February 13th</span></span> from <span class="aBn" data-term="goog_1759528845" tabindex="0"><span class="aQJ">9:00-Noon</span></span> and <span class="aBn" data-term="goog_1759528846" tabindex="0"><span class="aQJ">1:30-3:00</span></span>.r</div>
<div>
And…on <u><span class="aBn" data-term="goog_1759528847" tabindex="0"><span class="aQJ">March 14th</span></span></u>, <i><b>Jane Easterly</b></i> will present some techniques in the field of <b>pastel</b>. She will do a follow-up workshop on <span class="aBn" data-term="goog_1759528848" tabindex="0"><span class="aQJ">Saturday March 19th</span></span> from <span class="aBn" data-term="goog_1759528849" tabindex="0"><span class="aQJ">9:00-Noon</span></span> and <span class="aBn" data-term="goog_1759528850" tabindex="0"><span class="aQJ">1:30-3:00</span></span>.</div>
<div>
Before we know it…on <u><span class="aBn" data-term="goog_1759528851" tabindex="0"><span class="aQJ">April 11th</span></span></u>, <i><b>Chuck Borcher</b></i> will teach us about some <b>oil</b> strategies.</div>
<div>
And finally…on <u><span class="aBn" data-term="goog_1759528852" tabindex="0"><span class="aQJ">May 9th</span></span></u>, <i><b>Ron Nordyke</b></i> will lead us in a better understanding of the multifaceted art of <b>acrylics</b>. </div>
<div>
So…SPREAD THE WORD!!!!!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This month, we will have a meeting at <span class="aBn" data-term="goog_1759528853" tabindex="0"><span class="aQJ">7:00</span></span> and discuss any pertinent matters.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
DON’T FORGET TO <b>PAY YOUR DUES</b> to Margie Surber THIS MONTH!! $20 for the year. Her address is 2658 Alvarado in Sidney, 69162.</div>
<div>
Tentative dates for the Spring Show are somewhere within the dates of <span class="aBn" data-term="goog_1759528854" tabindex="0"><span class="aQJ">April 1st - 10th</span></span>. More exact details to follow!! But GET BUSY CREATING for the show!!!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
HOSTESSES/REFRESHMENTS: <u>Tish Treinen and Jane Easterly</u></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Hope to see you at the meeting!! (Please come in the west door at the church on 14th and Linden.)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Artfully yours,</div>

A note to say I am resigning from the wonderful job of being historian
for the “Art Guild”. The plan is to bring all the scrapbooks and photo albums to
the spring show for display for all to enjoy. I cannot consider taking any of it
home for another year. This spring I will be 85 years and someone will enjoy
having this historian job for the CCAG. This<a href="https://www.blogger.com/null" name="14bdda134b5ba981__GoBack"></a> has been a fun job and I will pass it on to another
person.</span></div>

The
Cheyenne County Art Guild selected Pamela Brown as February Artist of
the Month. Brown is a CCAG member haling from Akron, Colorado.
Washington County, Colorado, has been her home for over thirty-five
years. She works primarily in watercolor and is best known for her soft
and subtle paintings depicting the people and landscape of the high
plains in eastern Colorado. Her work brings life and beauty to an area
often thought of as barren and desolate.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Brown
and her late husband lived on the plains thirty-four miles southwest of
Akron for twenty-eight years where they raised their five children.
She continued to paint and enter shows during this time. In 2001 she
opened Sand Creek Studio in Akron; a working studio and a gallery for
her work. In 2005 she remarried and moved to town where she continues
to paint, enter shows, and occasionally teaches art classes. Her
husband builds custom frames and does all of the framing for her work.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Public
commissioned paintings by Pamela Brown include the National Radial
Engine Exhibition in Akron, CO--2004 through 2011, the 100 Year Old
Washington County Courthouse in 2009, and a Commemorative Envelope for
the Akron Post Office in 2007. She has painted numerous private
commissioned artworks, too.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Her
award-winning artworks have been exhibited at the Western &
Wildlife Show at Fort Robinson, Nebraska, the Western Spirit Show in
Cheyenne, Wyo., the American Plains Artists Show in Texas, the New
Mexico Small Paintings Show, the Catherine Lorillard Wolf Art Club's
exhibition in New York City, NY, a Featured Artist show at the Korshare
Indian Museum in La Junta, CO, as well as at the CCAG's Spring Members'
Show in Sidney, NE.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Pamela
Brown's limited edition print of a watercolor titled "Pink Cactus" is
on display now through <span class="aBn" data-term="goog_828654572" tabindex="0"><span class="aQJ">Sunday, March 8th</span></span> at the Sidney Public Library.
Twelve other artworks of Brown's are displayed at the Cheyenne County
Community Center. The public is encouraged to view all of these fine
artworks by this artist who has been called the "Chronicler of the High
Plains." As Brown once said, "People think of the mountains in the
western half of Colorado, but there is the other half of Colorado and
it's beautiful, too!"</div>

Entry date is <span class="aBn" data-term="goog_19560368" tabindex="0"><span class="aQJ">February 20, 2015</span></span>. Copies of the brochure are available.</span></div>
<div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">I
offered a ornament painting class at the Art at Lodgepole Creek Gallery
on Saturday, December 13th. Ten children participated. It was pretty
fun! Janell Wicht had a card-making class at the same time and had a
few participants. Margaret Evans brought some photos down to display
during the day. I am planning a try a Tot-Art class (24-36 mo. with an
adult) for <span class="aBn" data-term="goog_19560369" tabindex="0"><span class="aQJ">Wednesday</span></span> mornings and a class after school for elementary age students (not sure of these details yet).</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Thanks
go out to Nancy Dee for giving us a great workshop about pastel!! We
learned a lot about applying pastel, papers, and drew (painted) some
pretty awesome green apples!!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">JANUARY
Mini-workshop: Cindi Egging, yours truly, will give you some
information on still-life art (history, things to consider when setting
up a still-life, materials, and art elements and principles to pay
attention to) and she will prepare a still-life for us to work from with
a spotlight to help us see the values. Please bring any drawing
supplies you have: pencils, erasers, colored pencils, charcoal sticks,
and paper. I have enjoyed reading several articles in art magazines
while preparing for this workshop and have learned a lot! Judy’s first
mini-workshop addressed the “draw what you see” concept which is very
important when doing still-life. It’s a great way to improve skills as
you really look at the items before you.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">In
December, 8 or 9 of us painted Christmas ornaments which were delivered
to Sloan Estates, Golden Living Center, and Sidney Regional Extended
Care. They were received with gratitude—some were adding trees and were
very glad to have some new ornaments to hang on them. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Workshops: </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">At the last meeting, we decided to postpone the workshop with Sue Hart until next year. We also discussed the Patsy Smith workshop in the spring. The
members at the meeting said they would be interested in learning about how to make a landscape into an abstract painting, using
materials, and also to learn more about composition. It was pretty much agreed that we would be happy to learn whatever Patsy wants to teach us! Possible dates are <span class="aBn" data-term="goog_19560370" tabindex="0"><span class="aQJ">March 21-22</span></span> and <span class="aBn" data-term="goog_19560371" tabindex="0"><span class="aQJ">April 11-12</span></span>. She would prefer the March date. Any comments?</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">In
CCAG’s 4th year, October of 1975, they participated in an Art in the
Park for Sidney’s first Oktoberfest!! The big tent was in Legion Park
and the arts and crafts were at the Armory. Twenty artists showed
paintings that were displayed on picnic tables and table easels among
the old cottonwood trees. There was music by a Polka Band, a parade,
school bands and choirs, square dancing, pancake feeds, foreign food
fair, a cultural program at the Junior High School auditorium, a
community sing in the old band shell, adult and children’s games, etc.</span></div>

CHEYENNE COUNTY ART GUILD SELECTS J. I. MC ELROY AS ARTIST OF THE MONTH</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt;"><span> </span>Born and raised on Nebraska cattle ranches, J. I. McElroy has a
great love and respect for nature, wide-open spaces, and the natural interplay
between the land & its inhabitants.<span>
</span>These are depicted almost exclusively in her artwork, which is
accomplished in a realistic style.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: 8.0pt;"> </span></div>
<div>
<span> </span>What makes her paint or draw a particular subject can vary.<span> </span>Sometimes she is so awed with a scene or its colors that she tries to
preserve it on paper or canvas and share that scene with anyone who might have
missed it!<span> </span>Other times she is so
delighted with all the lights and darks, smooth and rough textures, and so
forth, that she is compelled to see if her eyes can see it all and if her hands can
record it.<span> </span>"Sometimes," McElroy said, "I simply try to
pass on the humor, wholesomeness, and wonder of people, animals, and events
that I am encountering on life’s highways.<span>
</span>What a joy!"</div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: 8.0pt;"> </span></div>
<div>
<span> </span>Another
joyful experience to her through art is being a member of the Cheyenne Co. Art Guild,
the Association of Nebraska Art Clubs, the Ogallala Art Society, and the
American Plains Artists.<span> </span>She
said that she is thankful
for the many friendships and learning opportunities that she is enjoying
through her association with these great organizations, the people in
them, and through
art in general.<span> </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: 8.0pt;"> </span></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<span> </span>McElroy's favorite
medias are watercolor, acrylic, and graphite pencil & charcoal.<span> </span>"Usually the scene I see, the humidity in the
air or lack thereof, the sun’s position in the sky, or the mood of the scene
will tell me which media I want to use to try to take that real-life scene and
put it down on a two-dimensional surface," she said.<span>
</span>Sometimes after working with color for quite a while she thinks it is just a wonderful
vacation as well as a challenge to work in black and white again with graphite
pencils and charcoal.<span> </span>She likes the
challenges presented by each media.<span> </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: 8.0pt;"> </span></div>
<div style="text-indent: .5in;">
Challenges are one of the many
things she likes about art.<span> </span>For McElroy the
first challenge presented is being brave enough to put that first stroke of
pencil or paint onto the new blank sheet of paper or canvas.<span> </span>The next major challenge is to keep going
with a painting or drawing when she hits a halfway point in its progress where
things are developing, but still not very pretty—when she wonders whether to keep
painting or throw it away and start over.<span> </span>And the final challenge for her is to know when the painting is
done--when that final little touch-up is the last one the painting needs.<span> </span>The
whole process is a challenge to her, and yet one she considers to be so
educational and so much fun while seeing how the artwork develops.<span> "</span>If in the end I like it, then that is
good," McElroy stated, "and if someone else likes the artwork
and it gives him or her pleasure to look at it, then that is extra special!</div>
<div style="text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-size: 8.0pt;"> </span></div>
<div style="text-indent: .5in;">
</div>
<div style="text-indent: .5in;">
Her artwork and/or prints or cards
may be seen at Sidney Feed, Sidney; soon at Art at Lodgepole Creek; Price
Gallery & Framing, Valentine, NE; her studio-gallery, The Bunkhouse,
southeast of Gurley; and in public and private collections internationally.<span> </span>Upcoming shows and exhibits in 2015 include
the CCAG Spring Art Show in March, Sidney; Ogallala Art Society Show in April
at the Meadowlark Gallery in Grant, NE and at the Petrified Wood Gallery in
September in Ogallala; the American Plains Artists 30th Annual
Juried Show, August-October, at the Great Plains Art Museum in Lincoln, NE; a
Featured Artist Show at the Most Unlikely Place in Lewellen in October; and the
2Shot Goose Hunt Art Show in December in Torrington, WY.<span> </span></div>
<span> </span><div style="text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-size: 8.0pt;"> </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt;"> McElroy's artwork has won many awards at various times
including Best of Show and People’s Choice at the Cheyenne County Art Guild’s
Spring Show; the Third Place Award, Award of Excellence, and the Purchase
Award at the international American Plains Artists Juried Exhibit & Sale in
Midland, TX and Lincoln, NE; many First, Second, and Third Place awards at the
Holyoke Art Show, Cheyenne County Fair, Wray Art Show and Yuma, Colorado Art
Show, and several others.<span> </span>The best
award to her is when someone likes and connects with her artwork!</span></div>
<div>
<br /><span style="font-size: 12.0pt;"></span></div>
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt;">A
signed and numbered 15" x 30" print of "Camouflaged but Uneasy" (a herd
of ten pronghorns) will be on display at the Sidney Public Library
through <span class="aBn" data-term="goog_987376468" tabindex="0"><span class="aQJ">January 11, 2015</span></span>. Twelve other artworks by J. I. McElroy will
be on display at the Cheyenne County Community Center. The public is
encouraged to view these fine artworks.</span>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4883461627246881482.post-35997630381184574482014-12-18T18:23:00.000-08:002014-12-18T18:23:10.642-08:00Patsy Yager - November Artist of the Month <span style="font-family: garamond, new york, times, serif;">Patsy
Yager is a Head Start teacher with a MAED degree (Master of Arts in
Elementary Education). While she has had very little formal training in
art, she has</span> always had a love of art and a desire to
create art. <span> </span>In 1998 Yager took a few oil
painting lessons from Trish Corder at the Hardy, Arkansas, Spring River Art
Gallery. <span> </span>From these she learned a few of
the basics of painting with oils. After moving to Sidney, Nebraska, she enrolled
at WNCC for some early childhood classes. <span> </span>As an elective she took beginning drawing. <span> </span>In 2013 Yager joined the Cheyenne County Art
Guild and has had the pleasure of attending a few art workshops sponsored by
the guild. <span> </span>Recently she began taking
painting classes with Mark Leach, a Bob Ross certified instructor. <span></span>Yager stated, "I find the different styles of art
fascinating." <span></span>And after attending a
watercolor workshop sponsored by the CCAG she is looking forward to trying her
hand with watercolors. <br />
<div dir="ltr">
Yaker's favorite subject matter is landscapes. She also likes to paint
animals, pets, and family members. Her "Spring River" painting is on
display now through December 14th at the Sidney Public Library. Other
paintings and photography by Patsy Yager are on display at the Cheyenne
County Community Center. The public is encouraged to view this first
ever exhibit of Yager's very fine artworks!</div>

L. Biesemeier Dee is a fourth generation resident of the rural plains
of Northeastern Colorado. As a lifelong painter, she especially
remembers two elementary teachers that encouraged her interest in art. After receiving her college degree in
Business Education and a
masters in Computer Education, Dee continued to pursue her art interests
while teaching and raising three sons. For many years, she painted
when her schedule allowed and was able to study under several
nationally-known watercolorists. Over the years she has won
several local art awards for her watercolor paintings and developed a
strong interest in pastel painting. </b><br />
<div>
<b><br />One
of her watercolor paintings won an Award of
Excellence at the Association of Nebraska Art Clubs (ANAC) conference in
June and is currently in the ANAC Traveling Show which is comprised of
the top
twenty-six artworks from that conference. Later in the summer one of
her pastel
paintings received a 2nd Place Award in
the 10th Annual Mile High International Pastel Exhibition that was held
at
the Denver Public Library in Denver, CO. Her artwork was also chosen
by the Denver Public Library's graphic designer to be one of four
displayed on the "poster" for the event.</b>
<b></b></div>
<b>
</b>
<br />
<div>
<b>Strong
parts of Dee's award winning paintings are color relationships and rural subjects.
She loves to capture things in the rich saturated
colors and vibrant light of Northeast Colorado where she and her husband live on their farm south of Paoli. In addition to
painting and supporting the local arts, she shares her love of
watercolor and pastel through teaching. Remembering how she started in college when she attended a local artist's workshop in watercolor
painting and got "hooked" on painting, Dee enjoys sharing her knowledge.<br />Dee is a member of the Cheyenne
County, Ogallala, Wray and Yuma art guilds, as well as the Colorado
Watercolor Society, Pastel Society of Colorado, and the Association of
Nebraska Art Clubs.</b></div>

<b>Nancy
Dee's award-winning watercolor painting titled "Yavatai Yucca" has been
on display at the Sidney
Public Library and twelve other artworks at the Cheyenne County
Community Center since October 13th. The public is encouraged to view these fine artworks. Other
artworks of Dee's can be viewed at <a href="http://www.frenchmancreek.com/" target="_blank">www.frenchmancreek.com</a>.</b></div>

I am pleased to serve as your president for the 20`14-2015 year. I want to send out the agenda through email before every meeting so that items can be added prior to the meeting and maybe save some time during our business meeting. I will also try to send them out early enough that I can also contact those who do not have email, too! THANKS to Ron Nordyke (vice president), Judy McElroy (secretary), Margie Surber (treasurer) for filling out the Officers' terms for this year.<br />
<br />
OF NOTE: We will again be having our MINI-WORKSHOPS, taught by members of the club. Anyone is invited to attend and learn new techniques in many different mediums. Invite friends and co-workers, neighbors and family members!! The building will be open by 4:30 for those of you who want to come early and draw or paint for awhile with a group. The workshop will begin at 5:15 so that if you work you will have time to come and join us. The workshops are casual and go until 6:30ish, so please come as soon as you are able. These little workshops were planned last year in hopes that most people would come and the meetings could get out earlier, but since everyone can't come, we have decided to add a short PROGRAM by the same artist, corresponding to the workshop theme, after the business meeting.<br />
<br />
OCTOBER Mini-workshop: Drawing by Judy McElroy at 4:30 in the Shelter House at Legion Park. Judy will be giving instruction about drawing what you see suited to the beginner or the seasoned artist. Bring any pencils you have, as well as erasers, sketch book, etc...<br />

42 YEARS AGO: Art Guild started on September 26, 1972. The first president was Jan Pippitt, Vice-President was Dr. Paul Adkinson, Secretary was Milly Elwell, and treasurer was Carolyn Schmidt. The second meeting was at the 4-H building on Oct. 4, 1972. The program for that meeting was given by Curtis Routh on acrylics. </div>

100 hours of voluntary public service over the course of seven months. Each
activity requires the completion of a specific number of hours.</span></div>

painting. It will be due for the Spring Show in March 2015. Those
already signed up for this project include Judy, Tish, Chuck, Pat A.,
Tess, Patsy, Darcy, Jack, Dakota, Ron, Margie, Cindi, and Margaret.<br />
<br />
NOTE: <span style="font-weight: bold;"> Mary
Morrison can teach the Golden Paints Workshop in Sidney </span>on <span class="aBn" data-term="goog_1206593844" tabindex="0"><span class="aQJ">Wednesday, October 22</span></span> or <span class="aBn" data-term="goog_1206593845" tabindex="0"><span class="aQJ">Saturday, October 25th</span></span>.
All Golden Paints and Mediums used and taught in the workshop will be
provided free of charge. At the workshop I attended in 2013 we were
even given samples to take home. I learned a lot and gained enthusiasm
to do much more with my paintings! They now have Golden Watercolor
paints as well as new, slow-drying acrylic paints. The workshop would be
from <span class="aBn" data-term="goog_1206593846" tabindex="0"><span class="aQJ">10 AM to 3 PM</span></span> (<span class="aBn" data-term="goog_1206593847" tabindex="0"><span class="aQJ">4 PM</span></span>
at the very latest) with a half an hour for lunch. The cost of the
one-day workshop is $1,000, so we will need 12 to 15 people taking this
workshop to make it more affordable per person. Ten people would be
$100 per person, 11 people would be $90.91 each, 12 people would be
$83.33 per person, 13 people would be $76.92 each, 14 people would be
$71.43 each, and 15 people would be $66.67 per person. Please contact
me at
<a href="mailto:jimcartist@yahoo.com" target="_blank">jimcartist@yahoo.com</a>
or call ne (Judy) at 308-249-1488 if you would like to take this workshop and
which day would work better for you. Please let me know as soon as
possible so we'll know whether or not to make a definite reservation to
have this workshop.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4883461627246881482.post-23120434001502781062014-09-06T20:54:00.000-07:002014-09-06T21:08:35.339-07:00One of the Advantages of Taking a Workshop...<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; text-align: justify;">Yes, this is
a little delayed getting posted because…I attended a workshop in New Mexico August
through September 1st. Looking forward to that upcoming workshop is great, isn't it? You have great hopes and anticipations based on all the information you've collected about the workshop. That's where I was a couple of weeks ago.</span><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; text-align: justify;"> </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; text-align: justify;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">We packed up
the fifth wheel and then it was off to the workshop with my traveling
companions, my husband, and Molly--our black lab mix. As we traveled to our destination near Ghost Ranch,
the landscape views gradually sharpened my awareness. The landscape dramatically changed and my
interest and camera were on overload!
After a week of living in that landscape and viewing it from morning to
sunset, I realize how refreshing and renewing an influence it had on my
artistic-side. These hills and rivers
and sage and colors west of Abiquiu were spectacular and so inspiring. I found myself reflecting on how fortunate it
is to be able to travel just a few hours from home and be in such a different
landscape in which to renew my inspiration as a painter? Workshop or no workshop, that was wonderful! <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Now, saying
that, plein air painting in a new location, as all new learning can be at times,
was frustrating. I came home with not as
many “good paintings” as I thought I should!
(Plein air painting in Abiquiu is up for another whole writing segment…much
later! Ha!)<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">It was definitely
obvious that we were in “O’Keeffe Country.”
Out the front door of the RV was the magnificent black mountain “Pedernal”…O’Keeffe’s
favorite mountain and reportedly where her ashes were spread. I’m not really a big O’Keeffe fan, but the
choices she made in her life intrigue me.
She chose to paint where she lived and what she knew. It wasn’t an easy life; she didn’t have all
of the conveniences of those living in metro areas at that time. She couldn’t get fresh food; by the time food
was brought to her house at Ghost Ranch, it was already starting to spoil. Eventually, she bought property in Abiquiu
with water rights and grew her own gardens; all so she could paint her beloved “melting
mountains” and her collections of bones found in the area. To me this just reemphasized my fondness for
where I live--the farming landscape, my connection as the fourth generation to
those who have gone before and my love of the sky and light in NE
Colorado. I can really relate to the
choices O’Keeffe made.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">These
choices I call…tradeoffs—you give up some things to gain others! So just look where you live with fresh eyes…one
day a clerk in Denver mistook where I was from thinking it was in the mountains
and said “Oh that’s such a beautiful drive!”
I replied, I completely agree with you; but my guess is we are not talking about the same location! You just
have to look with “new eyes” to be able to see!<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I hope this
Fall you get a chance to get away to an different view in order to appreciate
what you have right in front of you the rest of the year!</span><span style="font-family: Arial Rounded MT Bold, sans-serif;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
<b><i><span style="font-family: "Arial Rounded MT Bold","sans-serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">It’s
all about “Brush Mileage”….</span></i></b><span style="font-family: "Arial Rounded MT Bold","sans-serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Nancy<o:p></o:p></span></div>
