A passion for art and an exuberance for sharing that passion with others is the core and foundation on which the Cheyenne County Art Guild was founded. The CCAG was started in 1972 by a group of visionaries wanting a venue to promote the arts in the panhandle of Nebraska. The following was written by charter member Paul Adkinson.
The Cheyenne County Art Guild began after an adult art class presented by the Sidney Public School System. The art teacher, Jan Pippitt, and a student, Paul Adkinson, sent letters to begin an art guild. That was 40 years ago. The first year we had 40+ membership. These members set only four goals as a guideline for the guild;
- Have fun and enjoy the creation of your art,
- Educate the members in new techniques,
- Educate the public about art by having art exhibits and presenting art programs to civic clubs, etc,
- Promote the members talents and art by encouraging exhibiting in other art venues.
Today our guild has a membership of 40 artists from the panhandle of Nebraska and northeastern Colorado. We are very proud of our guild and it members' accomplishments. We have now added another goal--to continue for another 40 years.
Paul Adkinson, Charter Member
